DeeDee Draz Barreras was born May 26th in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The time spent on her grandparent's farm formed her love for animals, nature and the world of imagination and fantasy that is present in many of her paintings. Her talent in art led her down a surreal path that many only dream of. In 1992, DeeDee graduated with a BFA in Illustration, Painting and Fine Art from Minneapolis College of Art & Design. She landed an art department job on a feature film right out of college and two years later moved to Los Angeles to achieve her goal to work as an artist in the entertainment industry.
In less than 6 months, she was working at NBC as a scenic artist and in the Art Directors Guild; painting sets, murals & props, as well as several Hollywood studios, TV networks and feature films. Not long after, she landed her dream job at Walt Disney as an Imagineer. This gave her an avenue to expand her artistic skills and opened her eyes to many new forms of art. As a Senior Show Artisan, she specialized in all animatronic and still animals, dinosaurs & figures; painting ride characters as well as designing and creating their props & accessories for all Disney Parks & Stores Worldwide.
In 2011, DeeDee and her husband Ryan, decided that they were ready to say good-bye to the busy Los Angeles area and moved to Eugene, Oregon to raise their family and pursue their passions. DeeDee and her husband opened a fitness gym and she continues to pursue her passion in art working as a Freelance Artist. DeeDee still paints costumes for Disney Character Costumes, but has come full circle and is finally pursuing her love of Illustration.
Recently, DeeDee illustrated the cover of the first book in a four book series by Alyson Budde called "Starwalker and the Fairy Queen."
Since moving to Oregon, she has been inspired by her new environment and has been actively working on a Save The Bees series and a Warrior Women. Her love of drawing can be seen in the creativity with use of ink in her coloring book series. She also creates beautiful acrylic paintings of people and pets, but still explores other mediums like watercolor and colored pencil.
